Event Organizer

When I was launching the Bay Area Craft Beer website in January of 2011 I also decided to plan an event for SF Beer Week, which took place from February 10-19. It's a week full of beer tastings, dinners and special events that take place throughout the Bay Area. I knew It would be good publicity for the site, but I also wanted to give back to the craft beer community. Since I've been blogging about beer I’ve met some wonderful brewers who have graciously shared their time, beer and thoughts with me.

I decided to organize an event for the small-unlicensed nanobrewers in the region. Essentially homebrewers, men and women, who’ve been toiling away in garages and on back porches making beer they aim to one day sell, but for now give it away to friends and craft beer geeks like me. SF Beer Week doesn’t include them in the mix and for good reason, not many venues want to host unlicensed brewers and serve free beer.

After a hectic month of planning the Breweries of Tomorrow, Nanobrewery Festival was born. The event took place on February 13, 2011, and was hosted by Social Kitchen & Brewery in my neighborhood. It turned out to be far more successful then I ever imagined. The crowd was immense and the feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. You can read about it all over at BayAreaCraftBeer.com.

Unfortunately, due to the legalities of serving homebrew to the public, this was a one time event and did not take place in 2012, but it made a big impact on the brewing community.
